Hmm in asau (its always on my mind sorry) what if a different older father figureish entered? Kind of like nico had weber as a manager for some years,,, someone who (claims to) know nico and to know whats best for him,,, i cant imagine kevin liking his influence and power being meddled with (maybe abit more sinister but would kevin just feign disinterest, curious to see how much nico lets himself be controlled, no matter if its him or someone else doing it?)

before answering this I just want to put out that, as silly as it may sound, asks like this help. a ton.

because if I had written the asau all on my own like I'd originally wanted to I can guarantee it would have been shorter, and heavily censored, and overall simply not the entire story I wanted to tell. instead a version I thought would have been more respectable and acceptable. so, truly, every ask like this, every comment, every note, every DM of people enjoying what I've written so far, of people expressing they want more from this line of thinking. it really, really helps in encouraging me to go there. to walk the full mile I wanted to walk with this au. because we can make it rancid and toxic and unhealthy and really, really, really horny. we totally can. it just takes a little bit of courage I don't always have. but yes--hearing that others also want it and Im not just a freak weirdo helps. so thank you to everyone who has shown support so far

to answer your ask- it's a really interesting one. I think that nico almost... wouldn't be receptible to it. I think once he's honed in on one person (kevin this time--in the past he probably had the ugliest, most embarrassing teacher crushes) it's just that person he seeks out. doesn't go to others for that fix of "vaguely parental, vaguely horny, vaguely something else" care he craves.

as for kevin, well. we've seen what he was like with fernando showing even just an inkling of interest in nico. funnily enough chapter 3 (which im pretty close to finishing, but dont tell anyone) will answer how he reacts to others meddling a bit more, so I don't want to give too much away just yet.

outside of what's actually happening in the fic version of the au I think it's a really intriguing thought to imagine kevin watching as nico does what he did with kevin but with another person. I think if there was more distance (maybe if kevin came in at a point where nico was already strange and horny about another older man) then kevin would maybe watch, and he wouldn't be happy with it, but he'd feel almost satisfaction over nico at the very least being properly put in his place. even if he would prefer for that person to be himself

Don't know if this is exactly the vibes you are going for in your age swap au. This just seems like the young rookie having a big crush on Kev, and Kevin thinking it's kinda funny and accidentally playing it up a bit too much.

this is really interesting actually. I do have a scene written with basically this happening (like to the T) but it probably won't make it into the fic because I also have an alternate scene which fits what I'm going for better. the thing is I sort of see this being what nico wants to happen. because yeah he for sure has a big fat crush on kev before going in. and he wants the bro pats and hugs that last a bit too long. and then it doesn't go as planned and he is soo pissy about it I think I mentioned it before but I do want asau hulknussen to be distinct from just kevmick so I am trying my best with that. don't want to essentially write kevmick where mick is called nico. but will also say that the asau has ironically been reawakening the kevmick worms thoroughly lmao I am really itching for it now

me too anon. I mean... I'm still happy to receive asks about it if anyone wants to talk about it. the brainstorming that happened at the end of october/beginning of november regarding it was a lot of fun. there is progress being made behind the scenes so I think my perception of what I've said already and what not is warped--same with how long it's been since we last talked about it on here. I'm always open to it though!

For age swap au, what happens when nicos suddenly without kmag in the paddock? Like imagine his first race when kevins not there (either just out sick for a weekend, or dropped by the team if we are so far along in the story.) maybe he knows his and kevs relationship is toxic, but its one stable thing he has right? nico is so used to kev being there to fall back on, kev being there as a protection (even if Kevin usually didnt do much in public, he was just always /there/) hmmmm

ok this one was really fun to think about because the asau is being told completely from kev's pov so I haven't actually given nico's perspective on some of these things too much thought. I think if we're talking a situation where nico is racing but kevin isn't it'd end up with nico sort of bouncing back and forth between texting/calling kevin and going quiet. whereas kevin, sure he is happy to talk but he prefers letting it all happen, he's sick and he doesn't need to be involved. it's pretty cut and done for him, while nico does wants to keep involving kev to a degree (he's not super clingy but maybe a smidge. not sure if english has a word for it)

I figure if it's a long term situation such as kev switching to a different series nico would sorta… imitate kevin? not super overtly but he'd try to go for that cool and steadiness he got from kevin being present before. it wouldn't work completely obviously but certainly a shift to a more reserved, thought through, kinda-mature nico.

hi I am here to peek into your mind about the age swap au because it's my day off and I'm allowed to ignore responsibilities in favor of obsessing over it. but, considering how possessive kev is over baby nico and how nico is beyond eager to allow kevin to show it, do you think kevin would leave marks/signs of himself on nico?

yes absolutely. I think he would start by just leaving them on nico's chest and collarbone, and nico just kinda grumbles about it and tells him as long as other's can't see it's fine, but kevin keeps moving them up and nico can't hide them anymore and once he sees how much that pleases kevin he gives in. kevin always tries to leave them somewhere where they'll still peek out above the turtleneck of the fireproofs, or a corner right below the jaw, just small and hidden enough to ignore it but it's also starting to be impossible to get pictures of nico without them and yes people are talking about it, and the likes of kym illmann are making gossipy comments about it while official reporters are trying very hard to keep the sport serious ish and not devolve into "who is nico hulkenbergs furious lover??" I also think he'd sport some light bruising on his wrists and hips sometimes.

okay I'm. I would go so far as to say insane about this AU. YOU'RE NOT HELPING ANON! sorry. uhm. anyway!

yes nico has issues. I love giving him issues. also Kevin but Kevin tends to get a different brand of issues TM from me. it's also different in I suppose it's intensity? like for make it last I had one commentor rightfully point out that Kevin needs a therapist asap. and the portrayal also differs; in the groshulknussen fic it's almost completely metaphorical and never discussed/put into words at all. so yeah, I think there's a general thread you can weave through my fics and their characterizations that all centre on vaguely similar or connected themes, and if you wanted to you could piece it all together and find "the one" concrete answer to "what is nico and kevin's issue seriously you need to be medicated"

anyway, that said, I do prefer keeping it vague. kind of, looking at what the person is like now, as opposed to what got them there. in mil we never explored where both kevin and nico got their attachment issues from. the closest we get is kevin's inner monologue about his past relationships falling apart because of them. for nico nothing at all. there are of course things I have in mind for them--but saying, "x happened so now he is y" feels disingenuous. I want readers to be able to interpret and also relate and project to whatever measure feels right to them. I love writing for its ability to reach beyond what's really just letters on paper (or a screen). so, in the spirit of that, I tend to rarely look too much at this. I enjoy looking at the broken person, not what broke them.

doesn't mean that I don't put all those papers on psychiatry and psychoanalysis I have read to good use- I really think most of Kevin's leverage would come from just telling Nico what to do. super simple thing, I know, but that's the point. simple and easy and feels good and protects me and please please I'll do anything please just keep me safe. which gives Kevin the ability to not exactly do that, but convince Nico that yes, this is the right and good thing, just trust me, and Nico will try really really hard to justify it to himself.

but I will also say I haven't considered how heavy we'd be leaning into the power dynamic. that's the sort of thing I have to quite literally feel out while writing (a good example would be nico's suicidal/necrophilia adjacent fantasies in the lance/nico fic, which were totally up in the air because I had no idea how it would read and feel until it was written). I don't mind heavy fics, or writing angst, but I do prefer toeing that line of what is "acceptable" and what isn't, also because I suppose it feels worse? if Kevin was outright abusing Nico that would feel bad, no doubt, but if you yourself barely know up from down, just as Nico does, it'll arguably mess you up more. at least it would for me. I don't want to write evil!Kevin and victim!Nico, I want them to be codependent and sickly in love while they drive each other to ruin. I want nico to slip up and call kevin dad and for kevin to take that and call him son and kid and boy in return until nico is crying and the entire time they're fucking. I want nico to get cripplingly jealous of any other/new rookie/young driver that is in any way in contact with kevin to the point where he has a one-sided rivalry with one of them and constantly tries squaring up against someone who isn't even a challenger.

also I think it'd be funny for Haas to decide to drop Nico because they realize they created an absolute monster in letting these two team up. I want Ayao to watch as nico trails after kevin like a lost puppy and shake his head in disgust. I want interviewers to talk to each other about how they're starting to feel uncomfortable interviewing nico because kevin is always around somehow and looks like he's marking his territory. I want jenson to ask kevin how it feels to now finally be in the position of the older driver and to realize, halfway through the convo and in absolute horror, that it's nothing like jenmag was when they were teammates. for jenson to wonder in the back of his head if he fucked up, or if he somehow made kevin feel like kevin is making nico feel right now during their time as teammates, even though his influence on kevin was very minimal all things considered.

might make a post on younger nico pics for this eventually, if I get around to it. or just both of them for this AU, young nico and some of the more serious/rugged pictures of kevin's from recent years.
